Veil & Arm Movements - Ziba will share her knowledge of veil movements and arm positions, explaining and demonstrating the technique required to make your veil behave beautifully. She will show you how to use hand positions and arm patterns to get your veil to do what you want it to do, and combinations that you can incorporate into your dance. Not only can you frame yourself with arm movements, you can also tell stories with hands and arms. The veil also speaks to us and we will explore its mysterious dimensions. Ziba is a teacher, performer, author, and film producer. She is currently working on a book about her 30 years in Bellydance. Ziba is always a crowd pleaser and is known for her "vintage oriental" style.

Darbukastani Independence Day (DID)

Spirithaven Farm is located on a 130-acre parcel of land in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Stuart, Virginia. While it is a work in progress, it is the realization of a dream of its caretakers. Named for the ability this land has to make one's Soul and Spirit feel "at Peace", Spirithaven Farm is home to the Eutsler family and all of its resident Life Forms both domesticated and indigenous.

We believe this land is so special that we feel the need to share its energy with like-minded folks at certain times during the year. To that end we began to offer workshops and retreats that emphasize Arts and Music. Our "Flagship" event is Darbukastani Independence Days, a three-day festival revolving around Central Asian music and dance, drawing interested people from around the country.

Mastery of Technique - "Technique, bodily control must be mastered only because the body must not hinder the soul's expressions". This is the philosophy that inspired Katayoun's signature technique and style. Derived from the classical forms of Egyptian and Persian dance, the concepts and techniques are captured in detailed drills designed for Mastery of Technique - Precision, Fluidity, Musical Phrasing and Interpretation, as well as foundations for choreography and dynamic improvisation. The content of this workshop is adaptable for beginners to advanced dancer. Katayoun is of Persian descent and specializes in Egyptian and Persian dance forms, teaching and performing two apparently different forms that share some of the same important concepts and principles that can be used by any dancer to polish technique and develop style. Her performances are admired as highly sophisticated in fluidity, precisions, musicality, and cultural expressions.

The Classic is a bellydance competition with five categories and competitors from all over the United States. We have a new venue this year, a state of the art theater with excellent sound and lights.

The East Coast Classic has helped to establish many careers. It's a great place to see new talent, showcase your own talent, and be inspired. The East Coast Classic was founded and sponsored by Taaj fi Qalbi of Virginia. The 2008 East Coast Classic will continue under the sponsorship of Zuleika.
